Narrow Minds

Standard

In light of reading comments and posts on various social media networks, seeing narrow-minded thinkers bend conversations their way, ironically I began singing a song from another place & time in my life. This proves that the recesses of our minds are so deep, there is no telling what is in them!

I realized the song lyrics ring true today even more than it did then. I also realize how far I have come in my personal journey & reflect the blessings I have gained by not having a narrow mind.  While I am laser focused, it is completely different from having a locked, unopened, narrow mind.  One of my fav quotes is that our minds are like a parachute, better once opened.

Glen Campbell’s Try a Little Kindness!

If you see your brother standing by the road
With a heavy load from the seeds he’s sowed
And if you see your sister falling by the way
Just stop and stay you’re going the wrong way

You got to try a little kindness
Yes show a little kindness
Just shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you’ll overlook the blindness
Of narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets

Don’t walk around the down and out
Lend a helping hand instead of doubt
And the kindness that you show every day
Will help someone along their way

You got to try a little kindness
Yes show a little kindness
Just shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you’ll overlook the blindness
Of narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets

You got to try a little kindness
Yes show a little kindness
Just shine your light for everyone to see
And if you try a little kindness
Then you’ll overlook the blindness
Of narrow-minded people on the narrow-minded streets

There will always be the narrow-minded among us. Because our time is so valuable, we should never spend it criticizing, condemning or complaining about those who do not wish to change. Our energy should always be invested toward those who truly desire to make a difference in their lives and in the lives of others.

Our  nation was founded on brave people who were tired of being oppressed and under the tyranny of the King of England.  While everyone had the option of going to the new America, only those who desired the opportunity of freedom made the journey. Those ancestors were hungry for something different and courageous enough to do what it took to gain it.  Some had only a dream with no money and became indentured slaves for up to 3-7 years to pay for their passage to America.  You may meet both types of those people every day.  Some are miserable in their oppression / depression/ bondage, yet not courageous enough to change.  Others are willing to do what it takes to achieve it.  The latter are the ones you will embrace and spend time with.  Trust me, you will want to unleash your wisdom on the first only to realize you are, as the Bible states, casting your pearls before the swine.  Show kindness, bid them blessings  & simply walk away!

A leader is one who hates losing enough to change.  Those who embrace mediocrity or status quo resists changing enough to lose.

As you develop yourself as a leader, I pray you develop the discernment to recognize dream stealer’s and time hoarders.  Critics with tiny, narrow minds will always be your greatest cheerleaders because, when they see you succeed,  you provide hope for them.   You would much rather hear  this a thousand times, “you did it!”  rather  than one “I told you so!”

Shine your light for everyone to see!
