Culture Consciousness

I love buzzwords, well… most of them.  There are some that literally force me to exercise moderate amounts of emotional intelligence.  While riding in the elevator at work, I read a poster with a very familiar scripture. Funny how I ride the elevator daily, read that poster daily & today these words were illuminated.  This is why we suggest reading scriptures, books, etc., more than once as different parts come alive each time. Studies reveal your understanding of audio recordings happens around the sixteenth time.  It’s amazing how the human mind intakes & files information.

So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you. – Romans 12:1-2 Message

I love how this translation speaks to us about culture consciousness.  I’ve quoted this passage for years & love how the word of God is timeless regardless of the trends.  God truly is the same yesterday, today & forever as is His instructions to us.  As we attempt to fit in, become accepted, are noticed, etc., let us be reminded of what we are called to do & that is to be set apart as His chosen ones, His ambassadors.  This is the culture we should create, embrace & make appealing to the masses.

Blessings,
